The Base Yoga is a place for you to come and reconnect with the mind & body whilst gaining all the benefits yoga has to offer.
Our aim is to offer the practise of yoga to anyone craving some chill out time, helping you to reconnect with mind & body.
We understand the sacredness of joining yourself on your mat, therefore we offer a space to do this whilst we deliver our classes in a fun, playful and supportive environment.
No matter what it is you need to gain from your yoga practise, we offer a welcoming space, free of judgement, simply for you to come and enjoy your yoga class as we guide you through it.
Our teachers will support you to get your body moving, your mind reconnected and your soul full of love and happiness.

OUR STORYOwner Julie Townsend purchased The Base Yoga, previously known as Yoga Plus, in 2017.
Whilst working in the busy corporate world and travelling interstate most weeks, Julie found yoga over 10 years ago, attending a gym yoga class to simply 'give it a go.' Almost instantaneously, Julie found relief from chronic back pain, greater muscle flexibility, reduced stress levels & increased energy levels. Having attended prenatal yoga at Yoga Plus, Julie found an even greater connection to her practise and continued to grow that passion after the birth of her second child. It was shortly after that she commenced her Yoga Teacher Training with the Byron Yoga Centre. After gaining her Yoga Teaching accreditation, Julie began offering general yoga classes around the community in the City of Casey as a small business which she called The Base Yoga. Still practising at Yoga Plus as a student, a few years later Julie was presented the amazing opportunity to become the new owner of Yoga Plus in April 2017. The company officially changed its name to The Base Yoga a few months later, bringing a fresh energy to its yoga students and the community. With the assistance of her teaching faculty, Julie continues offering the same knowledge, love & professionalism to all students who attend The Base Yoga regardless of what they are seeking individually from their yoga practise. in 2023 Julie is currently completely her advanced Pre & Postnatal Yoga training along with her advanced 500hr teaching training. OUR HISTORY
The Base Yoga, originally named Yoga Plus, was founded by Andi Kiprillis with its first studio opening in Berwick in 2010. Through hard work, dedication and an absolute love for what she offered, Andi provided a yoga community for people to come together and practise safely under the guidance of experienced & compassionate yoga teachers.
In 2017, another milestone was met when the business was sold to Julie Townsend, yoga teacher & owner of The Base Yoga, and regular yoga student at Yoga Plus. Julie found herself being mentored by Andi since starting as a student at Yoga Plus in early 2014 when pregnant with her second child, so it was only fitting, and an absolute honour for Julie, and her family, to have the opportunity to be the new owner of this amazing yoga community.
“Yoga has always provided me with freedom. It gives me time back in my day and provides me clarity in this busy world we live in. Through movement in body and stillness in mind, we can take more time to observe oneself. Yoga is a personal meeting point to make you feel good and whole again.”, says Julie
Having seen first hand how yoga can be a powerful tool in enjoying a healthy pregnancy and an empowered birth, Julie feels passionate about yoga in the pre and post natal period. We have built a reputation for being the largest prenatal yoga studio in the South East suburbs of Melbourne which is still as strong as every today.
If considering yoga, Julie suggests choosing your studio carefully, and within the studio a class that suits your needs. Yoga is for every BODY, and the first step is often the hardest – showing up.
The Base Yoga and its team of teachers work cohesively to ensure each client feels welcome and is given the space and freedom to practice in a way that honours their body. “Seeing the smiles on our students’ faces and hearing about the way yoga has improved their lives makes our work extremely satisfying.”
The Base Yoga clients vary from infants to the elderly and every age in between. The Base Yoga has been instrumental in introducing a friendly, strong & connected yoga community as well as quality yoga to Melbourne’s Outer South East.
